A site built to help you choose a personalised gift well, including when not to personalise at all

Personal Gift sets out what each personalisation technique actually does, where it holds up and where it fails, organised around the decision you're trying to make. There is nothing to buy here, no affiliate links and no endorsed suppliers.

What this site is, and who it's for

A guide, not a shop

Personal Gift explains how personalisation actually works: which techniques last, which fade or wash out, and what each one costs and takes to arrange. There is nothing to buy here. The site holds no stock, takes no commission from any supplier, and does not endorse one engraver or embroiderer over another.

Why the technique matters more than the object

Two engraved glasses can look identical in a photograph and behave completely differently after a few months, depending on whether the mark was made by laser engraving or a shallow surface print sold under the same name. The guides here work through techniques such as laser engraving, embroidery, foil blocking and screen printing at the level of detail a buyer needs before ordering.

When personalisation is the wrong answer

Adding a name to something does not make it more thoughtful on its own, and a personalised item bought for the wrong recipient or the wrong occasion is often worse than an unpersonalised one, because it cannot be returned or passed on. Part of what this site does is say so plainly: some gifts should not carry a name at all, and some occasions are better served by a different kind of care.

Who this is written for

  • Someone with a specific occasion and a real deadline, choosing a personalised gift for the first time.
  • A corporate buyer ordering for staff or clients at volume, where one wrong spelling gets repeated many times over.
  • Someone who has previously received or sent a personalised gift that misspelled a name or fell apart in the wash, and wants to understand why.

Start with the gift guides if you already have an occasion in mind, or read how to choose a personalised gift without getting it wrong if you are starting from nothing. Anything not covered can be sent to personalgift@contactforsales.com.

No products sold

The site holds no stock and takes no commission, so nothing here is written to point you toward a particular retailer.

Technique-level guidance

Guides explain laser engraving, embroidery, foil blocking and other methods in enough detail to judge a supplier's claims before you order.

Says when not to personalise

Some recipients and some occasions are better served by a gift with no name added to it at all.
